Discover a premium selection of Steelhead and Salmon Shanks & Intruders at Drift Outfitters & Fly Shop, designed to tempt aggressive migratory fish in all conditions.

Intruder-style flies are built with flowing materials that pulse and swim on the swing, creating lifelike movement and a bold profile that steelhead and salmon can’t resist. Shank-style tying platforms allow tiers to create versatile, durable patterns that excel in fast water, deep runs, and challenging river systems. Perfect for anglers who demand confidence in their flies, our collection covers proven colours and designs trusted across Canadian rivers and beyond. Whether you’re chasing steelhead on the Great Lakes or salmon on the East Coast, these flies deliver results.

Steelhead and Salmon Flies FAQ

Q: What types of steelhead and salmon flies do you sell?
A: Drift Outfitters carries a comprehensive selection of steelhead and salmon flies for Great Lakes and Coastal fisheries. Our collection includes classic patterns, modern intruders, egg flies, tube flies, streamers, and dry flies — all tied for strong hooksets and durable performance in tough river conditionss

Q: How do I choose the right fly for steelhead or salmon?
A: Fly choice depends on water conditions, time of year, and fish behaviour. Bright, flashy patterns work best in high or stained water, while subtle, natural tones excel in clear flows. Egg flies and nymphs are ideal during spawning runs, while streamers and intruders trigger aggressive strikes from active fish.

Q: What hooks and materials are your flies tied with?
A: Our steelhead and salmon flies are tied on strong, corrosion-resistant hooks from top brands like Ahrex, Daiichi, and Partridge. Materials include durable synthetics, marabou, and flash fibres for movement and visibility in all water conditions.

Q: Which brands of steelhead and salmon flies do you carry?
A: Drift Outfitters carries premium patterns from RIO, Fulling Mill, Rainy’s, and Drift Outfitters’ own custom flies. These flies are hand-selected and tested for Great Lakes, Pacific, and Atlantic salmon and steelhead fisheries.

Q: What’s the difference between tube flies and traditional flies?
A: Tube flies are tied on hollow tubes rather than hooks, allowing you to rig the hook separately for better hook placement and allowing you to change hooks if one dulls. They’re durable, versatile, and perfect for targeting large, aggressive fish like salmon and steelhead.

Q: How should I store my steelhead and salmon flies?
A: Use large fly boxes with deep compartments for bulky patterns and tubes. After fishing, dry your flies completely to prevent rust and material damage.
