AUSTRIA-NORTHERN ITALY-SLOVENIA COMBO TROUT TOUR

Due to the close proximity of these three countries, we’ve designed a 12-day European trout adventure that allows guests to fish in three distinct destinations over the course of the trip. For those who love fly fishing while immersing themselves in rich history and diverse cultures, this journey through Austria, Northern Italy, and Slovenia offers a truly unique experience. We have two of these trips scheduled for 2026, and due to the complex logistics involved, we require 12–14 months of lead time to coordinate all aspects of this experience. September 12-24, 2027 has already been booked. This is not a hosted trip, but we handle all of the logistics so that all you have to do is show up.
Your journey begins with a flight into Munich, where you’ll be met and transferred to the charming alpine town of Mittersill. This will be your home for the first four nights, featuring three full days of guided fishing. Austria makes for an exceptional opening to the trip, combining breathtaking scenery with world-class waters. The hotel itself adds to the experience, complete with its own on-site brewery. While in Austria, anglers will target Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, Brook Trout, and Grayling. One of the highlights is a day spent fishing the stunning Krimmler Ach, a glacial-fed river set deep within Hohe Tauern National Park. With its dramatic alpine backdrop, this river valley is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful in Europe.
From Austria, the journey continues south across the border into Italy, arriving in the lovely town of Merano, nestled in the heart of the Dolomite Mountains. You’ll spend three nights here enjoying not only exceptional fishing but also the town’s vibrant atmosphere. Merano is perfect for exploring on foot, with boutique shopping, cafés, bars, and restaurants all within a short walk of the hotel. Fishing in this region focuses on the Passirio River, known for offering some of the finest dry fly fishing in Italy. Target species include Marble Trout, Brown Trout, and Rainbow Trout, with the occasional Grayling. For those seeking something different, there’s also an optional excursion to a high alpine lake to fish for Arctic Char.
On the morning of Day 9, you’ll transfer once more—this time into Slovenia—to the picturesque town of Kobarid, where you’ll spend the final four nights of the trip. This region is home to some of Europe’s most iconic fly fishing waters. Over three days, anglers will fish the legendary Soča River and one of its tributaries, the Idrijca River, targeting Rainbow Trout and the highly prized Marble Trout. The Soča, famous for its incredible emerald waters, has produced multiple 30-inch Rainbow Trout for past guests, while the upper stretches offer some of the best Marble Trout fishing found anywhere in the world. Guests will fly home from Venice, Italy.
