Hey folks, Chris here—and we're thrilled to introduce the all-new line of Patagonia Swiftcurrent waders, redesigned for 2025. These just hit the shop, and we’ve been putting them through their paces. Spoiler: we’re loving them.
Patagonia is a name anglers trust, and the previous generation of Swiftcurrents had a loyal following. But it was time for a refresh—and Patagonia delivered in a big way. There are four new models in the lineup:
- Swiftcurrent Traverse Zip-Front
- Swiftcurrent Expedition
- Swiftcurrent Expedition Women’s
- Swiftcurrent Expedition Zip-Front
Let’s break down what’s new and why we’re excited.
100% Recycled Materials—Seriously
One of the most impressive updates across the board? The entire fabric materials from the body to the shoulder straps — is made from 100% recycled materials. That’s a huge win for sustainability and right in line with what we’ve come to expect from Patagonia. Hats off to them for pulling that off without compromising on performance.
Updated Color & Comfort
These waders feature a new, lighter color tone, which might seem like a small change—but trust us, it’s a meaningful one. Lighter colors help reflect heat during the summer months, making them cooler and more comfortable in warm weather. Bonus: they also tend to attract fewer bugs.

Swiftcurrent Traverse Zip-Front
This is a fantastic entry point into the world of zippered waders. The Traverse Zip gives you all the convenience of a front-zip design at an approachable price. It features Patagonia’s patented convertible suspension system, which means with a quick flip of the buckle, you can easily drop the waders down to waist height. Perfect for hiking in, hot days, or quick relief breaks.
Swiftcurrent
The standard Swiftcurrent model gets a bump in durability with a slightly heavier material. Some of the standout features include:
- Padded shoulder straps
- Built-in waterproof pocket
- Padded knees for extra protection
- Fleece lining in the booties to keep your feet warm
It’s a great option if you’re looking for that sweet spot between comfort and toughness.
Swiftcurrent Zip-Front
This is the model I'm been wearing—and it’s the full package. It combines all the features from the standard Swiftcurrent (extra durability, fleece-lined booties, waterproof pocket, etc.) with the addition of a heavy-duty waterproof front zipper. That makes getting in and out of them way easier, plus gives you some much-needed ventilation during long days on the water.
