Southern Ontario Fishing Forecast for May 21st!
Hey, it’s Chris here with your fishing forecast for the week of May 21st. We hope you had a fantastic long weekend—and that you're already thinking about getting back on the water. We’ve got a bit of rain today, and some damp conditions heading into the next couple of days, but things are shaping up for some great fishing by the weekend.

Of course, if you are out in the next couple days after this rain please use caution around rivers as high water levels can be dangerous! We can forsee some good fishing on the rivers as they start to fall after the rain but rising rivers especially are unpredictable and can turn dangerous quickly. Shortly after the rain you may want to check out some pike fishing opportunities in lakes while the rivers settle down!

Let’s break it down.

River Conditions – Watch the Flows

📍 Credit River
  • We’re expecting higher water levels, especially early in the weekend due to today’s rain.
  •  By Sunday, the Upper Credit should begin to clear out—flows might still be a bit elevated, but visibility should be decent.
  •  If you're heading out Saturday, expect dirtier water, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
  •  Throw streamers, especially with the warmer temps we’ve had lately—fish should be in chase mode.
  •  Try mop flies, squirmy worms, or big, flashy patterns. These are all great choices in high or stained water.

📍 Grand River
  •  Currently at excellent flow levels, and depending on rainfall, the GRCA may adjust dam releases.
  • The Grand often stays clearer longer than freestone rivers like the Credit—so even if flows bump up, it might still fish well.
  • Check the GRCA streamflow page online, or call us Friday and we’ll give you the latest conditions.

Weather Outlook
  • Weekend temps look great—14°C to 15°C with some sun.
  • That means dry fly opportunities are absolutely on the table, especially by Saturday afternoon into Sunday.
  • With water potentially up a bit, nymphing and streamer fishing will still be solid if the hatches aren’t popping.

Pike Update
Pike fishing has been excellent to start the season, and this weekend is looking very promising—especially with that warm sun on Sunday.

✅ Key Notes:
  • Pike is open across Ontario now.
  • You don’t need a boat—just grab waders and explore marshy or shallow areas, though a canoe or kayak will open up even more water!
  • Focus on warmer, weedy flats, and don’t be afraid to fish slow and steady with larger flies.
