Hey anglers, Chris here with your August 20th fishing forecast! As cooler weather settles in, both trout and salmon anglers are getting excited about what’s to come. But don’t overlook warmwater species just yet, late summer is prime time for big bass and musky, with some of the season’s most aggressive eats. If you want a shot at a trophy fish, this is one of the best times to be on the water.
This weekend looks stable and fishy. Down south, warmer weather will creep back in, while further north conditions will stay cool and comfortable. (Quick reminder, we’ll be closed Friday and Saturday while we’re up at Elk Lake, so stock up before then if you need gear!)
Bass Patterns for Late Summer
Depending on your lake, you may still need to downsize for pressured fish. But as daylight hours shorten, bass shift into a fall feeding mindset, becoming more aggressive and chasing larger meals. That makes late August a fantastic time to fish topwater and brightly colored streamers.
Goodale Frog Poppers – Excellent for targeting bigger bass on topwater.
Walker Wigglers – Perfect for overcast or rainy days when brighter patterns stand out and trigger aggressive strikes.
This transition period is one of the most fun times to be a bass angler, expect bold eats and heavy takes.
Trout & Salmon Outlook
This weekend offers borderline trout conditions , likely some good action in the cooler morning hours, but warmer afternoons may limit safe fishing. Starting Monday, however, a noticeable temperature drop will bring all-day trout opportunities and likely trigger more salmon movement into rivers.
Keep an eye out for updated reports as next week unfolds, we’ll be watching conditions closely and sharing news as the fall run begins to heat up.
