Flies for Ontario Bronzebacks!
Ken Collins is one of Ontario's best known and respected fly fishing guides, having appeared on many fly fishing tv series, you've probably enjoyed taking in some of his fishing tips during your Saturday morning viewing! Ken specializes in all manner of fish species but has a real affinity for smallmouth bass, you're not going to want to miss this one!
Time-on-the-water, fly fishing guiding and instructing over the past more-than-a-few decades has given Ken insight to see that our Bronzeback fly fishing is top notch! Smallmouth bass live in numerous habitats throughout the province and with the right presentation and fly, even the pickiest fish will strike. They really do have a weakness for feathers and fur.
A successful fly usually boils down to the level of the water column bass are willing to feed at. You do need to be prepared with offerings that will work at different levels of the water column. The good news is that a handful of proven effective "guide style" flies will get the job done. The best flies are easy to tie with readily available materials and they flat out catch fish on the surface, in the depths and swimming in between.
Angling/guiding has taught Ken over the years two key factors of fish catching. First being that " movement = life = food", so if your fly patterns does not have built in movement, it will not be overly effective. Movement needs to come from the fly as well as your presentation for top results. This tying session will involve patterns that have proven movement built in!
Also, you need to put your fly where the fish are. If you are not loosing flies to the bottom or other fish hiding structures you are probably not getting as many fish tug-o-wars as you should. So patterns that are easy to tie, and occasionally can be left behind, are key to many top anglers successes. This session will show you a few patterns that you can quickly fill your fly box with without breaking the bank or staying at the vise any longer than necessary.
Come learn to tie durable, effective bass flies that will help you target the great bronze bombers found in Ontario's waters with Ken, a long-time smalljaw addict!
Each student will receive all materials needed to tie 4 proven patterns and will get to take home the flies they tie. Students must have some tying experience for this class. Students must provide their own fly tying vise and tools.

When Canada Post lost my package, the guys at Drift Outfitters honored the sale and sent me a new order the next day. It's nice to deal with a company that has great customer service.

Always get good service from the guys at the shop especially Chris…he is a pro….inventory is the best I have seen I. Any speciality fly shop which is rare in a single fly shop…support Canadian business /highly recommend
Dope fly shop, crazy selection of flies including big topwater bass flies of all sorts, and big pike flies which are pretty hard to find in person. Chill staff, loads of inventory. I make a point to stop here every time I'm in Toronto!
This is the best fly fishing store I have frequented in my 30 year fly fishing experience. The owner Rob, store manager Chris and the rest of the team are very knowledgeable about products and local fly fishing locations. They will guide you towards best products for your needs, and will not try to upsell if a lower priced option is better for you...
If you are in the GTA Drift is the only fly shop you need. They have an insane amount of quality tying products, packs, waders, boots, rods and reels. They also have the best staff w/ a staggering knowledge base.
