Guiding/Lessons

If you’re new to the area, travelling through, or live in the area and want to get out for a day on the water- there is no better way than to hire a guide.   We’re happy to direct you to some of our local waters for you to explore on your own.  However, having someone show you the ropes, and show you where and how to fish is well worth the investment.   Tying the right pattern on the end of your line, showing you what water to fish and making sure you fish it effectively is only a small part of a guide’s job.  Guides are also there to coach you along, insuring you walk with a new trick or two up your sleeve, and have an incredible experince on the water.

Many of the guides we work with offer float trips, letting you access less pressured and sometimes private water.

Our Guiding Program

Here at Drift we recognize the value of having a group of guides and instructors we can rely on for quality instruction and time on the water.  The founder of our company was a guide on the waters of Southern Ontario and recognizes the merits, quality and integrity of professional, full-time guides.  Instead of branding our own guiding program we work as a referral service connecting our customers with established guides across Southern Ontario and let them do what they do best.

Calmwaters’ Lead Fly Fishing Guide

Jeff is a full time Fly Fishing Guide. This is not just his hobby, he is passionate about getting you out fly fishing on the beatiful rivers of South Central Ontario, and he feels privileged to do it for a living. He has been running Calmwaters Fly Fishing for 8 years and has been guidng professionally for more than 10 years.  He picked up a fly rod early in his life and has been casting flies for almost 40 years now. Jeff teaches singlehand as well as spey casting.

Making people feel comfortable and relaxed is how Jeff brings out the fly angler in his guests. Jeff's ability to impart his knowledge of fly fishing to his guests is second to none, but he believes the experience of being on the river is as important as the technical portion of the day.

Fresh to Fly Fishing? Experienced angler? Somewhere in between?  Jeff loves to guide all levels and ages of people!

His Learn to Fly Fish courses will create enough technical know how and confidence to enable the new fly angler to venture out on their own on our wild Ontario rivers. That is his goal.  He wants you to enjoy the learning experience. He wants you to feel confident about your new knowledge and skills.

Experienced angler?  Looking for a trophy brown trout or a fresh steelhead?  He knows the rivers and has the experience to hook you up.

Corporate Fly Fishing Days are a specialty of Calmwaters and Jeff Parks. He loves to see a corporate day come together and be part of your team building experience with colleagues or customers on the Grand River in Fergus Ontario.

Jeff guides on all rivers in South Central Ontario and spends many a day on the Grand River Tailwaters for brown trout, the Maitland River and Saugeen River for steelhead, trophy smallmouth bass, and musky. He will go anywhere for fish!
