Fishing Forecast for May 29th

We're a month into trout season now and can say that it's been a very productive one! Fishing continues to be excellent on our rivers and is even improving on the Grand River in particular as temperatures become more favourable. We welcomed rains this past weekend which cooled off both lakes and rivers and brought with it more seasonable fishing patterns. Check out our trout, pike, and carp reports below!

Water has come up a little overnight on the Grand River, however we expect it to fish fine lower down in the system towards Elora. With three days until the weekend there is a very good chance the water comes down to normal levels before then too.

Make sure to check out the "Hot Flies" section below to set yourself up for success!

Trout Forecast

We're getting into big bug season for trout on all of our rivers! Depending on river you can expect to see hatches of drakes, ISO's, caddis, and foxes. All very fun hatches to fish! With the rain over the last couple days, this is prime time to fish big streamers for big fish as the water still has a little bit of stain. Going into the weekend think about fishing dries and nymphs as water clears.

Pike Forecast

Pike fishing continues to be strong all through southern and central Ontario. With the cooler temps you can expect fish to be more active this week with weed beds being the most productive on most waters. Target weeds 10-20 feet of water or rocky points in similar depths.

Carp Forecast

Carp has been excellent both on the great lakes and inland bodies of water alike. Fish will be looking to spawn soon so don't get distracted by rolling/jumping fish and keep on the lookout for active feeders!

Jake's CDC Caddis (Trout)

Caddis flies are being seen on almost all of our rivers now and you'll see them continue for most of our trout season. Check out one of our favourite patterns here!

Beard Louse (Carp)

Imitates an array of nymphs or small crayfish, all top of the menu items for hungry carp! Doubles as a terrific bass fly too!

Half & Half Clouser (Pike)

Our top pick for working deeper weedlines for pike, lots of body and still easy to cast!
