Top Ontario Guide Flies

To wrap up our series on Ian Troup's favourite guide flies for our local trout waters, we have a few more awesome nymph and dry fly patterns for you! These are all super simple to tie, and very effective flies. Try them out and let us know how you do!

Ian's Peeping Caddis

This is an awesome tweak on the old school peeping caddis. This fly imitates a caddis larva "peeping" out of its case of river debris. These work really well in deeper, faster water as the bright green pops to get noticed. These also work exceptionally well on steelhead!

Pink Bead Pheasant Tail

Simple Pheasant Tail

The classic pheasant tail is one of the best flies ever created, but we might like this one even better! This simplified version takes out unnecessary materials and adds durability.

Ian's No See Um

Ya, this fly may not look like much, but it's worth fishing! This has become a local favourite among trout and steelhead anglers alike!

Ian's Pearl Rib CDC Emerger

This is a great general purpose mayfly emerger, especially when the light is low and a little glint helps get noticed.

Ian's Pearl F-fly

The classic F-Fly is as effective a dry fly as they come! This is a variation that Ian likes, however feel free to tweak the body materials to your liking!
