They're the Rods We're Dreaming Of!
With the holiday season around the corner, it’s the perfect time to start dreaming about your next fly rod. We thought it would be fun to ask ourselves what rods are on our wish lists based on our fishing needs and preferences. Working in the shop every day gives us the opportunity to try out a lot of gear, and a few standout rods have caught our attention. Here’s what we’re eyeing right now!
Thomas & Thomas Sextant - Theo
Hey everyone! One rod I’ve had my eye on for a while now is the Thomas & Thomas Sextant. It’s incredibly lightweight and feels great in hand, I really want to take it on carp fishing and saltwater adventures. The build quality is amazing, with components like recoil guides that add to its overall performance. This rod is definitely at the top of my list, and I’m hoping to get my hands on it someday soon!
G. Loomis Asquith - Chris
The rod highest on my wish list right now has to be the G. Loomis Asquith. This rod is stunning, with beautiful finishes and an ultra-lightweight design. What makes it really unique is the material used in its construction. Unlike most rods made with graphite sheets rolled into blanks, the Asquith uses an incredibly thin graphite tape, which is layered up and down the mandrel to create the blank.
The result is an exceptionally thin and lightweight rod that’s incredibly responsive. Despite being a fast-action rod, it's tip isn't too stiff, making it great to cast even at shorter distances. The cork handle is beautifully crafted, and the rod comes in a range of line weights.
The one on my wish list is the 9-foot, 7-weight, which would be perfect for bonefish and bass fishing. It’s an amazing rod!
Sage R8 Core - Joven
Hi everyone! The rod I’m most excited about this holiday season is the Sage R8 Core. This rod has a deep-loading action that makes casting comfortable and enjoyable. I think it’s going to be a great all-around performer.
As an early holiday gift to myself, I also picked up an Islander reel, which I think will balance beautifully with the R8 Core and look fantastic on it. I can’t wait to give it a try!
