Our Favourite Early Season Steelhead Flies!

Steelhead are coming up the rivers and they are full of energy! Early season fishing can be one of the most fun times of year, it's not too cold out, the fish are aggressive, and some days you can have a lot of water to yourself!

In this video we go through some of our favourite flies that we think you should try for early season steelhead this weekend!

Orange Egg Flies

Early in the season, salmon eggs tend to be more of an orange colour, before they lighten to pink and white shades later in the year. Always a staple steelhead fly!

Lucent Hare's Ear Nymph

The pink bead hare's ear is one of our favourite all time trout and steelhead flies! When on pressured fish this produces when others don't!

Purple Intruder Leech

Some rivers even when low in the early season will have a bit of a stain and less visibility. This fly contrasts well and sticks out in the off colour water, getting noticed!

Jone's Special Waddington

Early season fish love a natural baitifsh pattern! When the water is clear this is our go-to swinging fly give it a try!
